The current trends related to increased effectiveness of non-profits, particularly faith-based and community organizations, focuses on improving the ability of the entire nonprofit/civil social sector to work together in order to have greater impact to achieve common goals. The deliberate and strategic coordination among a group of non-profits often results in better social outcomes than non-profits could achieve by themselves. However, given the diverse nature of different nonprofit groups this presents complex organizational, leadership and management challenges.


In addition, many philanthropic foundations and funders often require grantees to work collaboratively with synergistically focused organizations and governmental partners. This challenge to partner with other groups and organizations to address social needs and advance strategic initiatives and/or broader community objectives more effectively is increasing in an effort to leverage limited capabilities and financial resources.

Some examples of successful collaborations facilitated by Hyden Consulting include a broadly focused team comprised of sheriff, police, courts, prosecutors, investigative agents, and domestic violence specialists that specialized in enhanced response to domestic violence for an entire community; a “Continuum of Care” collaborative evolved into a comprehensive housing collaborative with a mission of ending homelessness; and a P-16 “Aspire Collaborative” which brought together community leaders of business, industry, government, philanthropy, nonprofit and education to identify and fill the gaps in the educational pipeline for preschoolers through four years post secondary.
